I am new to West Coast Swing. How do I sign up?

The intro class for complete beginners starts in September and February each year, and you can sign up here. When you have completed the six intro lessons, you can sign up for the Beginner class.

What should I bring to class?

A water bottle, comfortable clothes and indoor shoes with a smooth sole. You can purchase dancing shoes from eg. Swayd or Fuego or cover your own shoes with a sock for a start. ​

​

 

Will I be dancing with the same partner during classes?

During classes we will rotate partners frequently. We highly encourage switching partners both for your own dancing improvement and to get to know fellow dancers.

Who are my teachers?

The weekly lessons are taught by a group of voluntary members of West Coast Swing Aarhus. The weekend workshops are typically taught by a professional West Coast Swing instructor from another European community.

How do you use profit from classes and events?

All profit is used to pay for classrooms, international instructors, social parties, and equipment.

Is West Coast Swing a competitive dance?

You can choose to compete in West Coast Swing, where your timing, technique and partnerwork will be judged professionally. As of 2026, there are no official competitions in Denmark, but some dancers travel frequently to other Nordic or European countries to participate in weekend events. However, competing is not a requirement of West Coast Swing, and you can choose to simply enjoy social dancing if you wish.

I want to try an international event - where do I go?

The World Swing Dance Council (WSDC) keeps a worldwide calendar of official events. Aside from this, there are also unoffical events, which are more focused on social dancing instead of competition. Try asking a local teacher or board member if there are any events coming up!

  • Sol Swing (Norway) - no competition 

  • Winter White (Norway)

  • Hamburg Swing Creation (Germany)
